Earmarks and Murphy

BREAKING NEWS 2:  Second Murphy contributor who received large earmarks is a criminal.  Pleads guilty to receiving illegal kickbacks from federal subcontractor.

BREAKING NEWS:  Murphy contributor who received a  $2.4 million taxpayer funded earmark is a convicted felon

There are now at least 2 documented incidences where men who donated large sums of money to Pat Murphy (and who got their families to as well) have turned out to be criminals. Worse yet Murphy steered our tax dollars to these criminals in the form of earmarks.

Murphy has been in the local and national news much as of late about his very large sponsoring of earmarks and how many of those receiving earmarks are in turn funding his campaigns.  In 2007 Murphy sponsored the fourth largest amount of earmarks for any first term member of Congress as seen in this 2007 USA Today story.  This is quite the contrary to what he said he would do if elected when he ran against Mike Fitzpatrick in 2006 and complained about Fitzpatrick's small number of earmarks including one that helped fund the 9/11 memorial in Bucks County.  Now www.earmarkwatch.org lists Murphy as sponsoring over $20 million in earmarks just in the 2008 defense appropriations bill!

This is the same Pat Murphy who held a press conference in 2006 to call for an end to pork barrel spending, pay as you go rules for Congress and supported a balanced budget.  Certainly someone like that would never support earmarks?  Wrong.

Murphy has repeatedly said that pork barbell earmark king Jack Murtha is his "hero."  Just last year Murtha received $126.4 million in earmarks just in the defense appropriations bill alone! The same Jack Murtha who recently said "If I am corrupt it is because I take care of my district."
