Salvatore on the Need for Townhall Meeting on Healthcare
CAN WE TRUST
CONGRESS FOR REFORM?
I don't think anyone disagrees that we need
health care reform. The question is do you trust the Congress of the
United States, mostly made up of lawyers and influenced by lobbyists
and the money that they throw at them, to be the best persons to do
it? |

President Obama promised us change; he also
promised bi-partisanship in government and a different way of doing
things in Washington. It would appear none of these promises are being
kept.
If we want true reform we need to get members of all the different
groups, i.e., pharmaceuticals, doctors, hospitals, insurance companies
and members of the Senate and the House, both Democrat and Republican
together, much like the 9-11 commission
and give them time to work out a solution that is best for all of
America.
In the interim, our Congressman, Patrick
Murphy, should hold town meetings throughout the summer in places
large enough to hold more than a handful of people in order to hear
the concerns of the voters of Bucks County. It is important that we do
this reform to health care in the right way which would be to take our
time to get it right, but health care is not the only issue facing the
small business community of Bucks County.
At the recent percolator meeting sponsored by
the Lower Bucks Chamber of Commerce, I had a chance to speak with the
congressman. As the sponsor of the Web site www.patmurphywatch.com,
the congressman asked if I would mention on my Web site that he stayed
to hear every question and he did stay. But he took just 15 minutes
worth of questions with the microphone on. Afterwards he did stay
another 30 minutes to speak to people and answer more questions but no
one could hear the answers.
That's why I'd like to give him an
opportunity to answer the concerns of the small business people in the
Newtown area by holding a town meeting with those small business
owners.
He stated to me in our conversation that he
feels as I do: that small business is the backbone of America. This
would give him an opportunity to put his money where his mouth is and
prove that he really is a "Blue Dog Democrat."
As for my question to the congressman: "If
you claim to be a Blue Dog Democrat, how is it that you voted for
"Card Check"? My question was never answered.
