Goal: To keep Congressman Murphy – and local media - honest
NEWTOWN, PA – Who is the real Patrick Murphy?
He says he’s a moderate, even conservative, Democrat Congressman from Bucks County. His rhetoric is all about being independent and fiscally conservative. Unfortunately, there are many facts missing from the discussion.
“The truth is Pat Murphy votes with San Francisco Congresswoman [and House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi 99% of the time,” Paul Salvatore of Newtown said. “But he gets to hide behind his own spin machine because even if you try to get the facts out in our local newspaper – they give his PR staff a chance to see your letter before it’s even published.”
That’s one of the reasons local voters have joined together with others across the Commonwealth to start Murphy Watch on the web at www.PatMurphyWatch.com. The group, led by Salvatore, aims to help level the playing field and report the facts about Congressman Murphy’s voting record.
“It’s one thing that our Congressman hides behind his taxpayer funded spokesman and refuses to discuss his rampant pork barrel spending in these lean economic times, but when the Courier Times let him review our letters before publication, voters need another source for facts,” Salvatore explained.
The website will track the continuing federal investigation into PMA, the lobbying firm recently raided by the FBI, Murphy’s campaign donations from PMA clients, and his ties to embattled John Murtha and their joint earmarks for PMA clients. It will publish articles and letters about Murphy from local papers as well as national media.
The local group will also publish all available information about Murphy’s massive earmark spending and demand more open and accountable records about Congressional earmarks. In the process, site will do something the local media has failed to do – compare Murphy’s 2006 campaign promises with his actual voting record and out-of-control spending.
Susan Staub, President of Pennsylvanians for Right to Work stated "There are some politicians that say one thing and do the opposite. We can base our opinions of those individuals on their actions and on their voting record. Mr. Murphy calls himself a "blue-dog" democrat but his voting record on items that would fit those ideals proves otherwise.”
She added, “The Employee Free Choice Act is one area that could steal the private ballot from Americans and further tighten the choke hold that government has on free enterprise and the market place. Mr. Murphy voted for the passage of this terribly misnamed piece of legislation which is why we are happy to work with Mr. Salvatore and other Bucks County voters to support the Murphy Watch website."
